5 Players the Chicago Bears Should Have Drafted

It’s extremely hard to criticize the choices the Chicago Bears made during the 2015 NFL Draft. Ryan Pace did a great job of taking charge in his first draft as general manager for the Bears, as he brought in players who can both immediately contribute to the team and be longtime fixtures on the roster. With just about every needed position correctly addressed, there were still a few prospects the Bears should have selected.

With the possibility of Pro Bowl tight end Martellus Bennett being traded, the Bears could’ve gotten one of the best tight end prospects in Maxx Williams. The Minnesota product isn’t the player Bennett is, but he could have been a security blanket for Chicago’s offense in the event that a trade actually happens.

Hayes Pullard was selected in the seventh round by the Cleveland Browns. Although the Bears didn’t have a pick in the final round of the draft, I think that they should have used their final pick in the sixth round on Pullard. Some might say that would be kind of a jump, but Pullard’s knowledge of the 3-4 would have greatly benefited Chicago’s defense.

Chicago drafted running back Jeremy Langford in the fourth round, but Indiana’s Tevin Coleman could have been better suited for the Bears in the long run. I think Coleman has a better chance at being a starter in the NFL. Not knowing if Matt Forte (who will be 30 in December) will get a contract extension, the Bears could have been better prepared in the event that Forte hits the free-agent market.

Chicago did a great job by drafting cornerback Kyle Fuller last year, they should have done the same in this year’s draft with Jalen Collins. Veteran cornerback Tim Jennings has declined from his Pro Bowl level of play, and looking into getting a future replacement to complement Fuller would have been a smart move.

The Bears appeared to address every position that needed tending to except quarterback. Leading into the draft, there was little speculation of Jay Cutler being dealt in order to get Marcus Mariota. Seeing that didn’t happen, Chicago should have gotten Bryce Petty later on. I don’t see Cutler fulfilling his entire contract, and Jimmy Clausen and David Fales aren’t long-term options. Chicago is still in need of a quarterback for the future.
