Davante Adams was the Green Bay Packers‘ second-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, and got off to a bit of a slow start last season. He wasn’t a huge part of the offense, but as the season went on he started gaining more and more trust from Aaron Rodgers and saw a lot more playing time. By the end of the season, Adams was viewed as a huge key for the Green Bay offense heading into 2015.

Now that the season is beginning to close in, Adams’ name is going to come up quite often in discussions surrounding the Packers. He is expected to take a major jump forward from last year, and will be firmly implanted into the third receiver role behind Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb. Adams is primed to have a big season for the Packers, and it couldn’t come at a better time.

During his rookie season last year, Adams ended up catching 38 passes for 446 yards and three touchdowns. He came through with a huge game for Green Bay in their playoff win over the Dallas Cowboys, catching seven passes for 117 yards and a touchdown.

Adams is a very physical receiver as well, which is a bit different than the skills that both Nelson and Cobb bring to the field.

At 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds, Adams is a tough cover for opposing defensive backs with the athleticism that he possesses. It gave Rodgers a different dynamic to toy with last season, and he trusted Adams to make some big plays in very key situations. Adams came through, and showed more poise than most young players have.

Green Bay will need Adams to come through with a big season to help take some of the pressure off of the top two receivers. Defenses can hang with Nelson and Cobb by themselves, but that task becomes much harder with Adams on the field as a legitimate threat as well. Having three wide receivers capable of breaking off huge performances will make Green Bay’s offense even more dynamic than it has been.

Rodgers is going to be the happiest person in the entire situation if Adams does take the leap that he is expected to take. Having those three targets and Eddie Lacy as a running back would take more pressure off of Rodgers’ shoulders than he has had throughout his entire career to this point.

Needless to say, it is going to be interesting to see how Adams performance in his sophomore season. He got important experience under his belt last year, and will need to take the next step in 2015. Adams is just 22 years old, and his future is incredibly bright with the Packers.

Expect to see him break out with the big season that is expected from him. He is a hard worker and has a passion for the game that will drive him to the highest potential that he can get to. Green Bay is going to have an incredibly dangerous receiving corps in 2015, and Rodgers is going to have another MVP-caliber season.
