5 Potential Veteran Replacements for Tom Brady

As most people are aware, Patriots QB Tom Brady has been suspended four games for his involvement in the DeflateGate scandal. While Jimmy Garoppolo is likely to take over as the starter in that time, the Patriots may also choose to sign a veteran to challenge him for that spot. Here are five free agent quarterbacks who they may consider signing.

Lindley unexpectedly became a starting QB for the Cardinals last year, after injuries to both Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton. While his performance as the starter was not one to brag about, he got his feet wet at the NFL level. With that experience under his belt, I believe he is capable of taking on the leading role with another team in the NFL. The Patriots could very well be calling him soon.

Jackson most recently backed up Russell Wilson in Seattle, but spent the most time in Minnesota where he was drafted in 2006. He's served as a backup for the majority of his career, but has proven his ability as a starter as well, playing a huge role in the Vikings' 2008 playoff season. He is an able veteran QB and could be a great pickup for the Patriots.

Campbell has plenty of experience as a starter in the NFL, and has thrown for 16,771 yards and 87 touchdowns in his career. Many signs, including his age and two contract declines this offseason, point to him retiring, but perhaps Bill Belichick and the Patriots can persuade him to play a few more games.

Bringing in Vick may just add fuel to the already dramatic fire for the Patriots, so I wouldn't be a big fan of this move, but he is still an experienced free agent who the Patriots will probably examine. He didn't have much success in his limited playing time as a Jet last season, but I still believe he is capable of being productive.

Former Packers backup QB Matt Flynn would be the most viable candidate for Brady's four-game replacement. He showed in 2013 that he can be productive when placed in the starting role, replacing Aaron Rodgers for seven games due to injury and passing for 1,392 yards with eight touchdowns.
