Now that the NFL has handed down a four-game suspension to New England Patriots QB Tom Brady for his role in Deflategate, it’s time to officially start wondering why Brady would do such a thing. If playing with deflated balls had no effect on Brady’s performance, clearly he wouldn’t have risked so much. Thus, it had to help him in some manner, making it cheating, not “gamesmanship”. And there’s no way around it.

Brady seems like a swell guy and has never been in trouble prior to Deflategate. However, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is no stranger to being caught breaking the rules in efforts to gain a competitive edge. Belichick tarnished his legacy with Spygate. It’s undeniable. Now that his ‘golden boy’ is in trouble, it’s time for Belichick to take heat once again for his ways.

Belichick might not have known anything about Deflategate until we all did. However, he still played a significant role. Belichick has been Brady’s coach for 15 years now. He’s the guy who taught Brady everything he needs to know about how to conduct yourself in the NFL. And what Belichick taught Brady was that cheating is perfectly fine until you get caught, and even afterwards as long as in doing so you’re racking up wins and championships.

For someone like Belichick — who’s known to be incredibly hard on his players when they break even the most trivial rules, like being seconds late to a meeting — to conduct himself the way he has throughout his coaching career makes him a total hypocrite and further exemplifies why he should not end up in the Hall of Fame despite his four (tainted) championships.
