DeflateGate wasn’t just about Tom Brady, Bill Belichick or a couple of bumbling “ball boys,” it was also about headlines.
The Internet is an unruly environment. “Trolling” has become representative of a loss of tact and grace, yet is now parlayed into expected behavior. Not only can you post to a wide audience and anticipate getting digitally dismantled by cowards, but now it seems to also be an effective marketing strategy to pander to this human pond scum.

This is exactly where I believe the Boston Herald steadied their aim. Setting course for outrage, hitting their target and reaping not only visceral feedback, but more importantly, eyes to the page.
Who cares if you thought this “was a joke” or “ridiculous” and who cares if it made you angry?
Doesn’t matter. You consumed.
