The Green Bay Packers are preparing to open up the 2015 season, and they are excited about the players that they were able to select in the NFL Draft this year. One of those players was Stanford Cardinals wide receiver Ty Montgomery, and he is excited about getting his career underway with the Packers.

Montgomery was a bit of a surprise selection by the Packers, especially due to the fact that they already had one of the best wide receiving corps in the NFL. He will have to work for any playing time that he gets as a rookie, but he is ready to compete for it. There is no denying the fact that he has a very bright future ahead of him.

At 6-foot-0 and 220 pounds, Montgomery is a very impressive physical presence at the wide receiver position. During his senior season at Stanford, Montgomery caught 61 passes for 604 yards and three touchdowns. It was a down season for him, but he caught 61 passes for 958 yards and 10 touchdowns during his junior season.

It is always interesting to see how rookies take playing with big name players in their first NFL seasons, and Montgomery was asked about how he feels about playing alongside of Aaron Rodgers in an interview with Fox Sports.

“Everyone talked about having Aaron Rodgers as a quarterback,” Montgomery said. “Of course I’m looking forward to it. Some people actually asked me if I was going to be nervous catching passes from Aaron Rodgers. But I told them I had Andrew Luck as a freshman in college, so not really nervous about it.”

Needless to say, playing alongside of Luck during his freshman season will help him out. He wasn’t a huge piece of the Stanford offense, but he did play during that season. Rodgers already has Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Davante Adams to throw to, but he showed last season with Adams that he isn’t scared to develop chemistry with a younger player.

He is already showing confidence in his ability even with all of the other talented wide receivers in Green Bay.

“I think I can compete anywhere, at any point in time,” Montgomery said. “It’s nothing against any of the other guys that are here. But we’re all competitors. As far as my role, I can’t tell you what my role is going to be. I don’t necessarily determine that. I’m going to be prepared to be able to go whenever and wherever the coaching staff decides to put me.”

There is no question that these type of quotes are exactly what the Packers were hoping to see from their rookie wide receiver. Montgomery has the talent to become something special for Green Bay at some point in the future, but he has a lot of work to do before that happens. His rookie season may not be big statistically, but he will see some time on the field and gain experience.

All of that being said, it will be intriguing to see what type of production he puts up during his rookie season. It is pretty obvious that Green Bay believes he will be a long-term piece of their franchise by selecting him in the third round.

Expect to see Montgomery end up being the fourth wide receiver on the Packers’ depth chart, and to get some time on the field. He’ll have a very similar role to what Adams had during his rookie season last year, until he began stepping up late in the season. Montgomery certainly has the talent to become an above-average player in the future, and he is ready to begin his career and do his best to earn playing time in 2015.
