5 Philadelphia Eagles Who Must Step Up During 2015 OTAs

The Philadelphia Eagles will seemingly have a completely different team in 2015, with new starters filling in at several spots on both sides of the ball. The defense still has plenty of holes to fill, but the start of OTAs should give us a better idea of who will be starting come Week 1. Here are five guys who must step up during OTAs.

The Eagles are looking to revamp their secondary, and it starts with guys like Byron Maxwell, Eric Rowe and Walter Thurmond. One corner who could be on the outside looking in is Brandon Boykin, whose name has come up in trade winds. If Boykin wants a spot on the roster, he'll have to step up in OTAs to stay as the nickel corner.

After losing Jeremy Maclin to a huge contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, the Eagles are left with a hole at wide receiver. Jordan Matthews will start as the team's No. 1 wideout, with rookie Nelson Agholor pushing for time on the other side. Josh Huff had an unspectacular 2014 season with just eight catches, but he'll have a larger role in 2015 as an offensive threat. If he shows promise in OTAs, the wideout situation will look much better.

The safety position in Philly is less than spectacular, with Malcolm Jenkins at one spot and an opening at the other. Earl Wolff will have every opportunity to win the second starting safety job, as long as he's healthy enough. He'll need to perform well in OTAs and training camp to keep a guy like Jaylen Watkins or Eric Rowe from taking his spot.

2. Matt Tobin

Evan Mathis is absent from voluntary workouts thus far, which leaves an opening at guard. Matt Tobin and Andrew Gardner will have the first opportunities to fill in for Mathis at left guard. Tobin will have a chance to start on this team if the Mathis situation doesn't get resolved with him remaining a part of the team.

Much like Brandon Boykin's situation, Mychal Kendricks' name has been tossed around in trade rumors. The incredibly athletic linebacker has all the ability to succeed in this defense as an inside linebacker, but he'll have to beat out veteran DeMeco Ryans. A strong showing during OTAs and training camp should incline Chip Kelly to keep him rather than trade him.
