Byron Maxwell has been to two-straight Super Bowls and has made it clear he’s extremely confident the streak will continue in 2016. The 6-foot-1 cornerback started for the Seattle Seahawks shutdown defense for the past couple seasons before signing a lucrative six-year, $60 million deal with the Philadelphia Eagles as a free agent this offseason.

“Because I’ve been there before,” Maxwell told The MMQB’s Jenny Vrentas. “Knowing what it’s like if we go that far. Because we’re gonna go that far this year, meaning the playoffs and the Super Bowl. We’re gonna go that far. Hopefully that experience I already had, I can help them.”

The new Eagles cornerback didn’t stop there and made it abundantly clear he thinks his new team is Super Bowl bound.

“You can take that as a guarantee. That’s just me believing in my team and the product we’re ging to put out there on the field. I really do believe that. I have no choice but to think that way.”

There’s no denying the Eagles have talent, but guaranteeing a Super Bowl appearance at this point is just foolish and premature. With Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez sitting atop the depth chart at quarterback, there’s no reason to even think this team is likely to make the playoffs. I understand having confidence in your team, but Maxwell has barely even had any practice time with his new teammates and he’s already making Super Bowl guarantees?

“It’s pretty much the same culture as in Seattle, I’m telling you. We had guys that made smoothies in Seattle, too. All that music during practice. It really is the same.”

Oh, okay. That makes sense. Teams that have players that make smoothies are far more likely to make the Super Bowl. I apologize for doubting you Mr. Maxwell.
