Professional football is a business that precludes the game. Get in, get paid and do whatever you can to maintain premium value.

Adrian Peterson grasps this concept and it’s become implicitly obvious. Just days after unleashing a Twitter tirade, Peterson is turning the Minnesota Vikings into a “frenemy,” playing available cards to parlay them, realizing that if you’re to leave Minnesota, it’s best not to render any future suitors unsuitable — especially through publicized misconduct.

Dominoes are tipping from both ends. Undoubtedly the Dallas Cowboys are prime pasture for a back like Peterson, as rumors abound the running back and the franchise enjoy mutual interest. Additionally, it would behoove all three parties (Peterson, the Vikings and the Cowboys) if the jaded running back displayed added value. Otherwise the Vikings hold Peterson to his contract and keep him both a highly paid hostage and immovable commodity.

But if Peterson changes tune and abides while impressing, it generates added interest that could provide the Vikings additional assets. This, in my opinion, is AP’s angle — while the Cowboys are Peterson’s aim.
