Let’s add another voice to Daniel Snyder‘s hall of muffled silence. Change is coming, but ironically it hasn’t been felt in Washington D.C. yet.

This newest, and perhaps most prominent voice is that of D.C.’s mayor Muriel Bowser. According to Sports Illustrated, Bowser has shifted stance and dubbed the Washington Redskins‘ nickname offensive.

Via Sports Illustrated:

Bowser was asked about the name at a Tuesday press conference announcing a new stadium agreement between the city and MLS club D.C. United. “I think it’s offensive,” she said of the name.

Bowser’s stance on the team’s nickname has shifted several times. She said in November that the team should change its name, but she used the name in several interviews as recently as last month despite calling it “offensive to many people.”

Let’s see how long Bowser sticks behind this stance and let’s see how long Washington sticks with the Redskins.
