The San Francisco 49ers and Reggie Bush can do wonders for each other. Bush was added to the roster this offseason during free agency, and he will add some much-needed versatility to the team’s offense in the upcoming season.

A Heisman winner in college, Bush has had a notable, but not remarkable career in the NFL. In his last season with the Detroit Lions he lost many carries to his teammate and fellow running back Joique Bell.

Many cities have hosted Bush during his NFL career, having played for the Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints where he won a Super Bowl title, Detroit and now San Francisco. In all of these stops, much of his production has come in the passing game. In fact, a remarkable 3,500 of Bush’s 8,954 yards from scrimmage have been through the air.

The 49ers’ offense has sorely been lacking in screen passes as of late. Last season the team attempted only five and rarely threw to their running backs. The addition of Bush to their roster could do wonders for their screen game and wonders for Bush’s career.

Eager and willing to help, Bush has made it known that his goal is to utilize his talents while gaining the trust of his quarterback, Colin Kaepernick. When asked this week by NFL Network how he planned to aid Kaepernick, Bush said this:

” Obviously, catching the ball out of the backfield and running routes as a receiver, all of those different things I’ve been doing my whole career. Hopefully we can start to develop that relationship to where he trusts me enough to if he gets in a jam, he can just check the ball down to me.”

If Bush can implement his plan and achieve his goals with the 49ers, he just might be the missing element the offense needs to be a lethal and unexpected threat to opposing defenses. This just may be the best year of Bush’s career.
