Although new St. Louis Rams quarterback Nick Foles has yet to play a regular season game, he could be signing a long-term contract extension that could make him a Ram for a very long time.
Jeff Fisher and the Rams have been discussing a long-term deal with Foles, which shows the Rams’ game plan for the future involves Foles. The Rams acquired Foles via a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, as they swapped quarterbacks. Old Rams quarterback Sam Bradford was sent to the Eagles in this trade.
St. Louis has welcomed Foles with open arms, and Foles is fitting right now. The Rams need to sit down with Foles and get this long-term contract extension done. After the 2015 season, Foles is eligible to become a free agent, and could cash out with another team, leaving the Rams with another quarterback problem to deal with. If Foles has an outstanding year, the Rams could potentially lose their quarterback in the free agency market.
The Rams need to sign Foles to an extension to ensure they have a quarterback for the future. Foles brings mobility and a play action system that could help the run offense as well. Jeff Fisher is a very smart coach and mentor, and knows he does not want to go through playing the season again with so many quarterbacks under center. Austin Davis and Shaun Hill both started eight games under center for the Rams last year.
The Rams are watching Foles practice everyday, and know they have a team that can win the division. Foles could be the quarterback who leads the Rams to win multiple NFC West Division Titles. The Rams must get this contract done to help bring a team that has been rebuilding for years to its full potential.
