Philadelphia Eagles 2015 Training Camp Profile: WR Nelson Agholor

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY

One of the more intriguing rookies going into the 2015 Philadelphia Eagles training camp is 20th overall pick Nelson Agholor. Even as a first-year player, Agholor could make quite an impact and very well could be one of the more impressive and standout rookies in 2015.

Chip Kelly and the Eagles got a great player when they took the USC wide receiver. If it’s one receiver that could be this year’s Odell Beckham Jr, it’s Agholor.

He’s a good route runner with good hands, and is exactly the type of receiver that Kelly likes. With the absence of a true No. 1 receiver in Philadelphia, it really leaves the door open for a rookie receiver like Agholor.

In Kelly’s offense with the ability to get players open, it is very possible that the Eagles rookie will have a big year. Kelly has gotten over 1,300-yard seasons out of receivers Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson in his first two years in Philadelphia. What’s to say he won’t do the same with Agholor even if he is just in his first season?

With Jackson and Maclin gone, and no real threat outside Jordan Matthews at wide receiver, the first-year receiver could impress and come out of 2015 with big numbers. So far through OTAs and minicamp, the Eagles receiver has shown signs that he will do just that.

Agholor has been impressive, playing fast and catching everything thrown his way while running precise routes. This is also with backup quarterbacks Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow throwing the majority of the passes.

With the USC receiver strongly in the mix, there is no question that once quarterback Sam Bradford is back and healthy, unlike with the St. Louis Rams, he will have enough weapons to throw the ball to.

Where Agholor will line up is uncertain; however, it is anticipated that he will start on the outside across from Riley Cooper with Matthews continuing his role in the slot. With his versatility, Agholor could play anywhere Kelly puts him.

After drafting Marcus Smith in the first round last season, Kelly will be able to redeem himself after drafting Agholor. Big things can be expected out of the rookie as he will be the No. 1 receiver.

The Oakland Raiders drafted Amari Cooper with the fourth overall pick making him the first wide receiver drafted in 2015. However, at the end of 2015, it wouldn’t be out of the question for Agholor to be this year’s top rookie receiver.
