Colin Kaepernick has been working harder than perhaps any other quarterback in the NFL this offseason. The San Francisco 49ers go-to-guy took some time off from that this week to support a charity close to his heart.

Kaepernick participated in Camp Taylor’s “Against All Odds” golf tournament on Monday. The tournament was played in support of children battling heart disease. Camp Taylor, based near Kaepernick’s home town, has been his charity of choice since he entered the NFL.

Ironically, the mantra “Against All Odds” could also be used to describe a playoff push for the upcoming 2015 season of the 49ers. But Kaepernick had no interest in talking football Monday. His heart and his mind were fully with the children he was playing for.

When being interviewed at the Del Rio Country Club, Kaepernick spoke about the struggles these children were going through. He emphasized on how he couldn’t imagine going through such hard things, and he lit up about their ability to walk around with smiles on their faces despite all their struggles. Kaepernick said he felt blessed, and he probably wasn’t the only member of the 49ers to have such sentiments.

Aldon Smith, Dontae Johnson, and Kendall Gaskins from the 49ers current roster were all in attendance at the event as well. The players took time along with Kaepernick to not only participate in the event, but to take photos with the children and interact with them on a personal level.

It’s been a difficult offseason for the 49ers. Perhaps this day that focused entirely on another cause was exactly what the doctor ordered.
