There is plenty of talent with the linebackers, but they lack a true veteran to show them the way. They will need someone to step up and take a leadership role in order to take this unit to the next level.

Gates will miss the first four games, and even though he has gotten older, he remains a safety blanket for Rivers. He is a leader in the locker room, and has played through his fair share of big games. The team will miss his presence early on, and will need players to step up on key third downs.

The defense seemingly has the talent to be a top unit, but they need another big-time player outside of Weddle. Someone needs to step up to create more game-changing plays, as they will be facing plenty of talented offenses this upcoming season.
