What had already been a disastrous Fourth of July weekend for Jason Pierre-Paul got even worse on Wednesday. According to medical charts obtained by ESPN, the New York Giants defensive end had his right index finger amputated.

Pierre-Paul suffered injuries to both of his hands, including severe burns and possible nerve damage, in an accident involving fireworks on July 4.

The injuries and amputation will without a doubt have an impact on Pierre-Paul’s future with the Giants. The Giants reportedly withdrew a $60 million long-term contract offer to Pierre-Paul immediately upon hearing the news of the fireworks incident.

The 26-year-old pass rush specialist had 12.5 sacks in 2014 for the Giants.
