Sam Bradford Will Be Philadelphia Eagles' X-Factor In 2015

Looking at the Philadelphia Eagles‘ additions this offseason — and there are a lot of them — there are plenty of reasons to be excited if you’re an Eagles fan. While LeSean McCoy is no longer on the squad, he has been replaced not only by the 2014 rushing champ, DeMarco Murray, but also ex-San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews. Oh, and don’t forget about Darren Sproles. The backfield in Philadelphia is stacked.

On the opposite side of the ball, the Eagles’ defensive woes from 2014 can very well be laid to rest this coming season. The additions of physical cornerback Byron Maxwell and the jack-of-all-trades linebacker Kiko Alonso will undoubtedly make an impact for this team in 2015. While there are still questions at the safety position, the Eagles’ defense should still be far more effective than what it was in 2014, especially with the strong front seven that the Eagles possess. However, the Eagles’ future success will depend solely on one player: Sam Bradford.

In the wake of Nick Foles‘ highly unimpressive 2014 season in Philadelphia, the Eagles shipped him to the St. Louis Rams for Bradford, which drove plenty of Eagles diehards absolutely bonkers. While those fans were certainly justified to be upset by the move, it’s very possible that Bradford may have what it takes to turn the Eagles into one of the elite teams in the NFL. He has the smarts, the arm and the work ethic to make this team dangerous, but his durability is a big, red question mark.

In less than a year’s time between the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Bradford had torn his ACL twice. It’s hard to come back from an injury like that once, let alone twice, but Bradford seems to be on track to start taking more reps in training camp this August. If he can successfully recover from this injury in time for the Monday night opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 14, then the Eagles are in good shape. If not, the Eagles will have to ride with the capable, but inconsistent Mark Sanchez indefinitely.

While the Eagles can be a good team with Sanchez in the huddle, Bradford can make them a great team. With a much better supporting cast in Philadelphia compared to the laughable one he had in St. Louis, the sky is the limit for Bradford in the Eagles’ offense. The only question is his health.
