Leading up to the 2015 NFL Draft, the common conception with the Philadelphia Eagles was that they were in dire need of a wide receiver. When Jeremy Maclin chose to join the Kansas City Chiefs and reunite with former Eagles head honcho Andy Reid in free agency, things were looking bad. While some of the Eagles’ younger wideouts showed promise last season, there was a strong belief that Maclin’s departure would leave a pretty big hole in the Eagles’ receiving corps — that is until Philadelphia drafted Nelson Agholor out of USC with their first-round pick, who will help the Eagles’ aerial attack remain just as dangerous as it was with Maclin on the squad.

Nelson Agholor is a smart, hard-working wideout who can undoubtedly replicate the production that so many Eagles fans had seen from Jeremy Maclin during his time in Philadelphia. In fact, he’ll do so well filling in for Maclin that Eagles fans will forget who even wore No. 18 in midnight green.

Agholor is very similar to Jeremy Maclin both physically and athletically. Looking at their measurables side by side, they might as well be the same person. Maclin and Agholor are both 6-feet tall, 198 pounds and have a 32.25 inch arms. It’s actually a little frightening. On the field, they play alike as well, except Agholor is far more versatile, which Chip Kelly is infatuated with. He can line up anywhere on the field – outside, slot, backfield, you name it – and his crisp, silky smooth route running is a nightmare for any defensive player to mirror.

It’s unknown where some of the Eagles’ other wideouts like Jordan Matthews or Josh Huff will line up. Matthews played primarily out of the slot last season, but has seen more reps on the outside during mini camps. Huff could very well be a force in the slot, but he may play on the outside to take the top off of defenses with his blazing speed. This is all still a little hazy, so it’s hard to predict exactly where and how often Agholor will play. But nonetheless, Nelson Agholor is going to be a nightmare for opposing defenses. Even more so than Jeremy Maclin.
