Philadelphia Eagles Great Donovan McNabb Is Tarnishing His Reputation

Before I go on my tirade on how disappointed we all are in Donovan McNabb and his recent actions, let me just make it clear that I am one of McNabb’s biggest fans. He is quite literally the reason for me, along with many other people, growing up following the Eagles. Ever since his days at Syracuse, I was in awe of the things that he was able to do on and off the football field. He was a true competitor and human being.

I use the term “was” because it seems as if he is a different person now. After serving a one-day jail sentence just last year for driving under the influence, McNabb was arrested again just this past week for the same offense and now has been suspended from his duties at FOX Sports indefinitely.

The former Philadelphia Eagles QB is rapidly tarnishing his reputation — not only as an athlete, but as a person as well — and it’s an awful thing to watch.

After being drafted by the Eagles and famously being booed on stage by the Philly faithful, all he did was earn himself six Pro Bowl appearances, break just about every Eagles passing record in the book, take the Eagles to five NFC Championships, Super Bowl XXXIX and have his famous No. 5 jersey retired. Those are all phenomenal accomplishments and he earned all of them.

The people of Philadelphia were proud of McNabb and what he had done during his decade-long tenure with the Eagles organization — and they still are — but if he continues on the path he is currently on, will any of his accomplishments as a Philadelphia Eagle even matter? Probably not. He won’t be viewed as the bringer of great success to Eagles football, he will be viewed as a guy who can’t keep himself controlled.

This is an unfortunate part of Donovan McNabb’s life and it’s truly saddening to watch. McNabb’s reputation isn’t completely ruined, but he’s going down a dark road. Hopefully for his sake, he can still turn around.
