Latest Threat of Dallas Cowboys' Dez Bryant Should End Nasty Contract Dispute

At some point enough becomes enough. Both the Dallas Cowboys’ brass and Dez Bryant and his camp have puffed out their chests for months now in attempt to get the other side to back down and concede to their contract demands. Bryant believes that he is the best receiver in the game and that he should be paid accordingly. He wants long-term security and believes that anything short of that is the organization’s way of telling him that they do not appreciate him or his talents.

For the past few years the Cowboys have taken on the fiscally responsible approach to signing players and they believe that every deal they make should be team friendly, with the exception of the quarterback position. In reality they hold all of the cards here as they can put the franchise tag on Bryant both this year and next and never sign him to a long-term deal, if they so desire.

But by doing so they take the risk of losing one of the game’s best young receivers and playmakers in Bryant; a player who could be the difference between them finally returning to the Super Bowl if they keep and develop him or their continuing their wade in mediocrity if he bolts for another team.

Jerry Jones and his son Stephen continue to point to concerns over the salary cap down the road if they give Bryant everything he wants, but these are also the same two who famously claim that they helped invent the cap and that they also know all of the perfect angles when it comes to approaching it. Well if that is the case, they need to put their egos to the side, work one of these glorious angles, and get the best player this franchise has seen since Emmitt Smith signed.

There are only a handful of players this team cannot do without, Tony Romo being of them and Dez Bryant being the other. The Jones’ should recognize this and not go into the 2015 season hoping that Bryant is bluffing with his threat to skip training camp and the first few games of the regular season; because if they turn out to be wrong, the result could be a disastrous end to their hopes of finally turning the corner and becoming a championship club again.
