The start of training camp for the Chicago Bears is two weeks away, and there are still some scenarios that are attracting the attention of many fans. Of course, the Bears’ new coaching staff and the implementation of a 3-4 defensive alignment will be the most obvious things that will stand out in Bourbonnais, IL. However, rumors that are hovering over the head of Chicago can possibly bring some unwanted attention to the team during camp.

Although this isn’t set in stone, many have made the assumption that rookie Kevin White would be inserted into the starting lineup at the beginning of training camp. White hasn’t yet proven himself worthy of the spot, but his 6-foot-3, 215-pound frame should be big enough to fill the void left by Brandon Marshall.

Currently, the Bears have two prime candidates to fill the starting nose tackle spot. Jeremiah Ratliff, an 11-year veteran, hasn’t played a full season in the NFL since 2011 due to injuries. There is also a small possibility that Ratliff could play some defensive end, thanks to Ray McDonald getting released. That could leave the window open for rookie Eddie Goldman to clog up the interior of the Bears’ defensive line.

Since the start of organized team activities (OTAs), Pro Bowl guard Kyle Long has taken reps with the first-team offense at right tackle, replacing Jordan Mills. Mills’ decline in play last year is one of the main reasons for this experiment. If Long is just as good at right tackle as he is at guard, then we could possibly see Mills on the bench, while rookie Hroniss Grasu steps in at right guard.

Alshon Jeffery surprised many fans in Chicago this offseason by opting out of a workout in Nashville with quarterback Jay Cutler and several other Bears offensive players. Instead, Jeffery did his conditioning with former Bear Brandon Marshall. There isn’t any concrete proof of any animosity between Jeffery and the rest of his teammates, but this scenario will have many questions directed towards Jeffery at the start of camp.

After missing three weeks of OTAs in June, Martellus Bennett joined his team for a mandatory minicamp last month, despite not getting a contract extension he desperately wants. The Pro Bowl tight end has two years remaining on his current contract. With a new regime and a new offense in place in the Windy City, Bennett will more than likely have to prove once again that he is worth a new contract.
