It is almost here! The offseason has been flying by and NFL football will be back in our lives in the blink of an eye. The Detroit Lions open training camp in the coming weeks, and with that comes storylines, rumors and positional battles for fans to follow. While rumors are generally just hearsay and predictions, here are five of Detroit’s biggest rumors to know heading into training camp.

In 2014, the Lions had a revolving door of nickelbacks due to Bill Bentley and Nevin Lawson going down early with injuries. Rookie Quandre Diggs and veteran Josh Wilson have split the majority of first-team reps at the position, and it looks as if one of them will earn the nod. Bentley, Lawson and fellow rookie Alex Carter have a shot at it as well. Or, it could be a dark horse – Detroit is currently carrying nine CBs on the roster.

A common theme for the Lions this offseason is that the team’s defense will struggle with the departure of Ndamukong Suh. In 2014, the Lions boasted the league’s No. 1 run defense and No. 2 total defense. Losing Suh, a dominant force, is a huge blow. However, Detroit added Haloti Ngata on the defensive line and returns nearly all of its defensive starters from last season. Ngata recently said it is the best defense he’s ever played on.

Ebron has been mentioned by several analysts to have a much-improved season. He did have an extremely unproductive rookie season with just 25 catches, 248 yards and a single touchdown. However, he worked hard this offseason, and head coach Jim Caldwell fully expects him to be a vital part of the offense. He is more comfortable entering his second year in the offense and worked with quarterback Matthew Stafford throughout the offseason.

The No. 3 receiver job is far from cemented, but Moore is seen as the front-runner. Although he is one of the Lions’ newer additions, he played for offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi with the New Orleans Saints and is familiar with his system. Jeremy Ross and Corey Fuller disappointed in that role last season (38 combined receptions), while Ryan Broyles and TJ Jones have been injury prone. At this point, it is Moore’s job to lose.

Detroit has been a pass-happy team since Stafford took the helm. With that said, Caldwell and general manager Martin Mayhew seem to want to focus on the running game in 2015. The team drafted guard Laken Tomlinson, running back Ameer Abdullah, fullback Michael Burton and tackle Corey Robinson this year, while adding guard Manny Ramirez as well. Add in Joique Bell and Theo Riddick and all signs point to the ground game.
