In the midst of the Major League Baseball’s All-Star Break Weekend festivities held in the Queen City, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton took part in the Celebrity Softball Game at Great American Ballpark on Sunday. The Bengals franchise quarterback didn’t receive much of a hometown welcome as fans booed him during pregame introductions and his first at-bat.

One might imagine that a ballpark full of Cincinnatians would enjoy the opportunity to watch their quarterback play in the Celebrity Softball Game, but this was not the case. However, Dalton was able to shrug off the taunts to knock a pair of home runs out of the park and was unaffected by the booing. According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Dalton said, “Everybody has got an opinion. It doesn’t really matter. It comes with it. Everybody has their opinion here. There’s a lot of support and that’s all that matters.”

Dalton has been mostly under criticism throughout his four-year career for not being able to win a postseason game. The two-time Pro Bowl quarterback will enter the second year of his six-year, $115 million contract this season.

Perhaps this is a sign that Bengals fans are ready to see a change at quarterback? Backup AJ McCarron has done all things necessary to solidify himself as the No. 2 quarterback. In Dalton’s four years with the team he has not had a backup who has contended with him for the starting role the way McCarron has this offseason.

Although we are still a ways away from seeing another quarterback under center for the Bengals in the regular season, the Celebrity Softball Game shows that Dalton still has much to prove to his fans.
