Denver Broncos Should Sign Former Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders

Ace Sanders Denver Broncos Wide Receiver

Yesterday, the Jacksonville Jaguars elected to part ways with WR Ace Sanders after two years with the team. Sanders simply didn’t fit in with the Jaguars any longer since the team had invested resources in four very young receivers, Allen Robinson, Marqise Lee, Allen Hurns and Rashad Greene. Sanders provided value to the team as a punt returner, but he wasn’t good enough to crack the receiving rotation. It was unfortunate for Sanders, given the flashes of talent he showed during his first two seasons. However, all is not lost for Sanders, and I have a feeling that an NFL team will take a chance on him. I think that Sanders would best fit in with the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos have been a perennial Super Bowl contender since Peyton Manning joined the team, but their window to win a title is rapidly closing. Manning unceremoniously declined towards the end of last season, and it is unclear whether that was due to a calf injury or his age. This upcoming season is probably Manning’s last, and the team needs to surround him with as many weapons as they can. The team didn’t re-sign Wes Welker this offseason, so they could use some extra depth at the receiver position. Sanders could play either outside as a deep threat or inside as a slot receiver. His versatility would greatly benefit the team.

Sanders also could function as a punt returner for the Broncos. Last season, Sanders averaged 7.1 yards per punt return for the Jaguars, and thanks to his speed he was a threat to take the ball to the house every time he touched it. Sanders could take over the duties from Isaiah Burse, who did a good job returning punts last season (7.3 yard per return). Sanders has better potential as a receiver and is about equal to Burse in the return game, so it would make sense for him to get the roster spot over Burse.

The Broncos really should consider adding a young, speedy wide-out like Ace Sanders. Sanders looked good during his two season in Jacksonville, and he probably would have been an even better receiver if the team had given him an opportunity to play. Sanders will find a job somewhere in the NFL, and if he could land a job with the Broncos, it would be a win-win situation. Sanders could easily make an impact on the Broncos team, and his experience and versatility will help him greatly.
