Reggie Wayne Signing With Denver Broncos Makes the Most Sense

Back in March, the Indianapolis Colts made the decision to move on from veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne, despite the 36-year-old stating he would prefer to play one last season with the team. Even though there was some indication retirement could be the likeliest option, Wayne has decided he will play a 15th and final season before calling it quits.

Wayne has made it clear there are several teams interested in his services. A solid assumption is the Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots being at the top of the list. At this point, Wayne is not making it known which team he intends to sign with, but it is quite clear the Broncos makes the most sense.

Superstar quarterback Peyton Manning, who played several seasons with Wayne in Indianapolis, is on the verge of calling it a career, too. Denver giving Manning a familiar weapon in Wayne could give him the necessary edge to not only get back to the Super Bowl, but also win it this time.

Despite Wayne having one of the worst statistical seasons of his career in 2014, there is plenty of reason to believe he has enough left in the tank to be a productive member of whichever team he inks a deal with. That becomes particularly true if he lines up with Manning under center, especially when considering the two have a chemistry that takes years to achieve.

It is nearly a given receivers Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders will have productive years again in 2015, but the loss of tight end Julius Thomas and wide receiver Wes Welker proves it would be wise for the Broncos to make a quality acquisition.

Wayne is by no means a slam-dunk for Denver. With that said, Manning and the offense would likely be better off with him on the team. Not to mention, Wayne wants to go out on top by not just winning another ring, but proving that last season’s disappointing production was nothing more than a fluke.
