But having said that, there are a few players they cannot afford to lose during the season. Here's a look at the top five. 5. Travis Frederick Getty Images 5. Travis Frederick Getty Images The knock on Frederick coming out of college was that he was too slow, as if that matters all that much at the center position. Well, all he did was come in his rookie year and own everything the team asked him to do, from calling all the signals at the line to providing stout protection for Tony Romo in the middle of the pocket. He is the clear leader of the offensive line and is key to everything this team wants to do offensively. 4. Tyron Smith Getty Images Advertisement 4. Tyron Smith Getty Images He excels at his most important job and that’s to protect the blind side of quarterback Tony Romo. If the Cowboys are going to go anywhere this year, he has to help keep their quarterback with a history of back issues upright as he has done his entire career. Smith was the first building block of what is now considered the best offensive line in the league and he is clearly the best of the bunch. 3. Orlando Scandrick Getty Images 3. Orlando Scandrick Getty Images While he may not rack up the interception totals of some of his counterparts in the league, he is definitely one of the most consistent cornerbacks in the game. The Cowboys will rely on him to cover the opposing team's best receiver and thanks to his versatility, he can do this no matter where he lines up. They also need Scandrick to stay healthy while their first-round pick Byron Jones develops and battles Brandon Carr for the other corner spot. 2. Dez Bryant Getty Images 2. Dez Bryant Getty Images He is close to being No. 1 on this list as he is the clear emotional leader of this team. His talent, work ethic and passion elevates the level of play of his teammates and helps make this one of the most dangerous offenses in the league. Teams are forced to know where he is at all times on the field as he is game-changer every time he touches the ball. 1. Tony Romo Getty Images 1. Tony Romo Getty Images Dallas fans may not agree with this, but this Cowboys team goes as Tony Romo goes! They got a taste of what life was like without him when Brandon Weeden took over for a game and the results were disastrous. Romo has been able to put up big numbers and lead this team to victories with lesser talent around him, so now is the time to take advantage of his ability to improvise and extend plays.
