NFL Teams Looking To Move To Los Angeles Running Into Obstacles

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The St. Louis Rams, San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders have all been rumored to be looking to move to Los Angeles due to stadium problems with their current cities. The NFL has been pushing to get at least one team, more likely two teams, to relocate to Los Angeles for the 2016 season. There is one major problem that the league continues to run into, though, and that’s finding a temporary stadium for the teams to play in during 2016 while a permanent complex is being built.

Earlier this week, Rose Bowl Stadium said that they weren’t interested in putting in a proposal, and now, the Los Angeles Angels‘ stadium in Anaheim has also declined to submit an offer. Stadium officials stated that there would be too many scheduling conflicts with baseball and football in September and October.

With the Rose Bowl and Angels Stadium of Anaheim both out, it only leaves three options for temporary housing for NFL teams, which are the Coliseum, Dodgers Stadium and the StubHub Center.

The Coliseum’s current lease states that only one NFL team could potentially play there, which could present a problem, although the lease can be changed.

Dodgers Stadium would likely run into the same problem as the Angels Stadium, with scheduling conflicts between baseball and football.

That would only leave the StubHub Center, which is currently home to MLSLos Angeles Galaxy. While that may look like the best option, the complex only seats 27,000, which could cause a major problem with the owners looking to move, as they would lose a bunch of money with a much smaller stadium.

Without a temporary place to play, the NFL’s plans could be foiled rather quickly. I’m sure there’s a deal to be made somewhere, but it seems to be much more difficult than originally expected. Hopefully, things will work out because it’s a shame that the second-largest city in the United States doesn’t have an NFL team to support.
