At this time of year, all NFL fans are filled with optimism regarding their favorite teams. This story is no different for Chicago Bears fans. Unfortunately, the Bears faithful have been highly disappointed season after season due to constantly being excluded from the postseason. However, a number of drastic changes within the organization, and numerous dynamic players should give Chicago fans plenty of reasons to be excited for the 2015 season.

In 2013, the arrival of “offensive guru” Marc Trestman had the excitement of Bears fans at an all-time high. It only took two seasons for both the Bears’ brass and fans to realize that Trestman was not fit to be an NFL head coach. After starting his coaching stint with an 8-8 record and falling to 5-11 the following year, fans in Chicago should be grateful Trestman isn’t around to dig the team into a deeper hole.

As the Bears’ new general manager, Ryan Pace has made some highly-favorable decisions. From free agency to selecting players from this year’s draft who can possibly be in the starting lineup, Pace has set a firm foundation to a new era of Bears football that should bring them back to prominence in the league.

After trading All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Marshall to the New York Jets, Pace used Chicago’s first-round pick on Kevin White to fill the void. The combination of White’s big frame and explosiveness can possibly be seen as an upgrade from what Marshall brought to the table. If the No. 7 overall pick lives up to expectations, then the Windy City could have the 2015 Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Even though he’s entering his 11th season in the NFL, Antrel Rolle is still capable of playing at a high level. Rolle will definitely bring stability to a Bears secondary that has struggled over the years. More importantly, the three-time Pro Bowler and one-time Super Bowl champion will bring a much-needed winning attitude to Chicago’s locker room.

For the first time in the storied history of the Bears, their defense will sport a new-look 3-4 alignment. This scheme is something that has become more and more popular with NFL teams, and when conducted by the right coach it can wreak a lot of havoc. Chicago has brought in a truckload of defensive personnel to make this work, but the No. 5 reason on this list will be why the Bears’ defense improves dramatically.

As the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, Vic Fangio orchestrated a defense that was ranked in the top five for four years straight (2011-14). The past two seasons, the Bears were ranked 30th in the NFL in total defense. The combination of Fangio and the 3-4 could make the Bears’ defense one of the most feared once again.

As mentioned earlier, the Bears will be without Brandon Marshall as their No. 1 target in the passing game. This automatically puts Alshon Jeffery in the spotlight as the team’s primary receiver. Coming off of back-to-back 1,000-receiving yard seasons, Jeffery could be in for a career season in 2015.

Despite being close to the age of 30, Matt Forte is still one of the best running backs in the NFL. Forte is coming off a year where he set the all-time single-season record for catches by a running back (102). Entering the final year of his contract, another season like 2014 will definitely help Forte end his career in Chicago. Furthermore, with the Bears’ heavier running load, Forte should get his fourth consecutive 1,000-yard rushing season.

John Fox has been the head coach for the Carolina Panthers, and the Denver Broncos, and he has led both teams to the Super Bowl. This is something that Bears fans have been waiting for since the 2006 season. Fox is the first coach Chicago has hired with head coaching experience since George “Papa Bear” Halas rehired himself as head coach in 1958. Fox’s know-how as an NFL head coach could help the Bears get back to the Super Bowl quicker.

I’m going to be honest; even with all of the new additions and adjustments the Bears made this offseason, they probably won’t make the playoffs in 2015. However, they should most definitely improve from their 5-11 record last year. If anything, this season should be the catalyst that sends the Bears back to the top of the division in the near future and helps make them one of the best teams in the NFC.
