Chicago Bears' Kevin White Will Break NFL Record in 2015 For Receiving Yards By A Rookie

Chicago Bears' Kevin White Will Break NFL Record For Receiving Yards By Rookie In 2016

The Chicago Bears are coming off of a disastrous 2014 season, in which the team finished 5-11, and missed the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season. The team decided to clean house, and fired everyone from the general manager on down. New general manager Ryan Pace hired former Denver Broncos head coach John Fox to be the next Bears head coach, and Fox brought offensive coordinator Adam Gase with him. Gase comes highly recommended by Peyton Manning, and he will do a world of good for Jay Cutler and the entire Bears offense.

One of the first moves that the Bears regime made was trading Brandon Marshall to the New York Jets. The thinking behind the move  was that Marshall’s presence was doing more harm than good to Cutler. Ever since their days together with the Broncos, Cutler has had a problem with zeroing in on Marshall, and that tendency has resulted in a number of Cutler’s dreaded turnovers.

The Bears used the seventh overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft to take West Virginia wide receiver Kevin White, who will serve as Marshall’s replacement. White had a monster 2014 season for the Mountaineers, as he hauled in 109 catches for 1,447 yards and 10 touchdowns. He followed that up with a ridiculous showing at the 2015 NFL Combine, when he posted a 4.43 40-yard dash at 6-foot-3 215 pounds, and did 23 reps of 225 pounds on the bench. White possesses the size and speed combo that leaves scouts drooling.

With Marshall’s departure, Alshon Jeffery will step into the No. 1 receiver role, which means White is going to receiver a lot of one-on-one coverage. White is one of the best receivers I’ve ever seen at attacking a ball at its highest point, which will allow him to dominate in single coverage. Cutler won’t need to be perfect with the passes he throws White’s way, he only needs to give him a chance.

The type of offense that Gase ran with the Broncos fits perfectly with the personnel the Bears possess. It contains a lot of short passes such that guys can run after the catch. When the defense starts playing up on receivers, that’s when Gase takes shots deep. Imagine Emmanuel Sanders from last season, but add four inches and 35 pounds, and that is what defenses will be facing with White in 2015.

Not only do I expect White to make a Pro Bowl during his rookie season, I’ll go out on a limb and predict that he will break the NFL record for the most receiving yards in a season by a rookie. The record is held by Bill Groman, who had 1,473 receiving yards in 1960. As long as the entire Bears offense stays healthy, White will be the new record holder by the end of the season.
