The one thing they do lack in some areas though is depth. The Chiefs cannot afford to lose some of their star players, because they mean everything to the Chiefs success this year. Here are the top five most irreplaceable players that the Chiefs have on their roster. 5. Dontari Poe Getty Images 5. Dontari Poe Getty Images A lot of games are won in the trenches, and a team with a 3-4 defense like the Chiefs needs a dominant nose tackle to win in the trenches. Dontari Poe is one of those nose tackles that can take over the line of scrimmage. If Poe is playing at a high level, it makes his teammates that much more dangerous. Winning the battles up front is key to any game, and the Chiefs have one of the best lineman that can takeover the line of scrimmage. Advertisement 4. Jeremy Maclin Getty Images Advertisement 4. Jeremy Maclin Getty Images The Chiefs didn't get a single receiving touchdown from their wide receivers group last season. That needs to change and the Chiefs brought in Jeremy Maclin to hopefully improve their wide receiving group. Maclin is a talented receiver and due to the serious lack of depth within this group, the Chiefs cannot afford to lose Maclin. Otherwise, Alex Smith won't have anyone to throw to. 3. Alex Smith Getty Images 3. Alex Smith Getty Images Every team needs a good quarterback if they want to make a serious playoff run in the NFL, and the Chiefs are no different. While Smith isn't a quarterback who strikes a lot of fear into opposing defenses, he is still good enough to lead a team to the playoffs. Smith just needs to find some more weapons and get the ball to some wide receivers this year. A lot of teams would love to have Smith as their QB. 2. Jamal Charles Getty Images 2. Jamaal Charles Getty Images Jamaal Charles is the only real threat on offense for the Chiefs and he is their best chance to score points on any given week. His rushing numbers may have been a bit down last season, but he is still a threat to score every time he touches the ball. Charles is still one of the better running backs in the game and is a dynamic threat when the ball is in his hands. Charles is the Chiefs' best playmaker. 1. Justin Houston Getty Images 1. Justin Houston Getty Images It's an easy choice for the Chiefs' most important player heading into training camp. It's newly minted, second-highest paid defensive player in the league, Justin Houston. Houston is one of the best pass rushers in the NFL and finding a pass rusher as dominant as Houston is hard to find. In a division where the Chiefs play Peyton Manning and Philip Rivers four times in a year, they need rushers. The defense starts and ends with Houston.
