Pittenger-USA TODAY Sports After an array of offseason moves including trading both the starting quarterback and running back, things will have a new look for the Eagles this season. There are many new faces on this team and we will find out soon enough if those offseason moves will pay off. While all the players play a role in having a successful season, some are more important than others. Here are 5 players who are irreplaceable as the Eagles prepare for this season. 5- DeMarco Murray Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports 5- DeMarco Murray Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports While the Eagles could probably get by with a combination of Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles at running back, Murray brings an element to this offense we have not seen since Duce Staley’s days as an Eagle. We saw first hand all last season the type of talent Murray has and what he brings to the table. After the contract they just gave him and the production they expect, the Eagles need him to be healthy. His athleticism allows him to get out in space and throw blocks down field to spring running backs. We saw how the line took a step back when he sat out the 2012 season with a torn Achilles. For the Eagles to get back to the playoffs, they need the seven-time Pro Bowler to continue to be the anchor along one of the NFL’s best offensive lines. 3- Fletcher Cox Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports 3- Fletcher Cox Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports One of the future stars in the NFL, Cox causes havoc every single play. He is a beast against the run and continuously pressures the opposing quarterback. The Eagles know the kind of player Cox can be and will look for even more production out of him this season. If Cox were lost for the season, the Eagles would be forced to play Vinny Curry out of position or rely on a young player like Taylor Hart or Brian Mihalik. Yeah, not exactly ideal. 2- Malcolm Jenkins Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports 2- Malcolm Jenkins Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports With so much scrutiny being thrust on the secondary during last season, it isn’t surprising to see Jenkins as the lone man standing from last years group. What is surprising is the way the Eagles filled the void at safety opposite of Jenkins. Without having a clear-cut starter opposite Jenkins, and not having a distinguished backup behind him, the Eagles would be in a ton of trouble if Jenkins was out of the lineup. 1- Connor Barwin Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports 1- Connor Barwin Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports One of the most undervalued players on the team, Barwin brings so much to the table. His ability to rush the passer and drop in coverage makes him a matchup nightmare for other teams. Behind Barwin, there is no one. Marcus Smith II is completely unproven, Bryan Braman is a career special teamer and Travis Long is a second-year player with minimal experience. Losing Barwin would be a sign of bad things to come for the Eagles.
