Video Games And Virtual Reality Give The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Hope Heading Into Training Camp

With training camp still a week away, news regarding the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and most other NFL teams is pretty dull. Within the last two days, it’s been revealed that the Bucs have invested in a virtual reality training system to help Jameis Winston, who just received a rating of 81 in Madden 16.

Winston isn’t the highest rated rookie in this year’s Madden game. That honor goes to Amari Cooper, who received a rating of 82. Certainly, Winston will put that chip on his shoulder and prove he deserves Rookie of the Year honors in 2015. Okay, maybe it’s not that big of a deal, but Winston would rate himself the highest if it was up to him.

The Bucs aren’t the first NFL team to work with virtual reality and they won’t be the last. This could be a nice tool to have, but it won’t make or break Winston’s rookie season. Hopefully, he’ll perform better than his 81 Madden rating when he puts the VR goggles on.

Training camp can’t get here soon enough, can it? Only 50 days until the NFL season opener and 53 until the Bucs take on the Tennessee Titans, by the way. If Madden ratings are any indication, Winston will have the edge over Marcus Mariota (rated 78) in Week 1. If the Buccaneers’ virtual reality skills translate to the field this season, they may not be picking early in next spring’s draft.
