Coming off a 10-6 record in 2014 that started off hot and derailed towards the end of the season, the Philadelphia Eagles will look to climb to the top once again. With the amount of added players to the roster and returning players almost being an even split, there is sure to be a lot of competition throughout training camp. Eagles training camp begins Sunday, Aug. 2 at the NovaCare Complex.

The quarterback position will be a heavily contested battle in camp. The Eagles will have battles for the starting job and the third string spot. Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez will battle for the starting job, while Tim Tebow and Matt Barkley battle for that final spot.

The Eagles are stacked at the running back position with 2014 leading rusher DeMarco Murray, former San Diego Chargers starter Ryan Mathews and the always consistent Darren Sproles. With these three guys on the roster, the other running backs going into camp will have to try to make the team as a member of the special teams unit.

The wide receiver position will be a fun watch throughout camp as there will be a fight for every spot. The guys who will likely make the cut are first-round pick Nelson Agholor, Jordan Matthews, Riley Cooper, Josh Huff and Miles Austin. This is one of the iffiest positions on the team, as no one really knows what to expect from this group of wideouts.

The tight end position appears set with Zach Ertz and Brent Celek both returning. Both are solid players who will make the cut without a doubt. The only question here is who will start?

Offensive Line

The two notable names missing from this group are Evan Mathis and Todd Herremans. The guys who shouldn’t have any trouble making the team are Allen Barbre, Andrew Gardner, Lane Johnson, Jason Peters, Matt Tobin, Jason Kelce, Dennis Kelly and Julian Vandervelde. This unit will be very important as early indications show Bradford as the starter at quarterback, and he has a history with injuries. This unit must keep him upright.

The starters from last year’s defensive line are all returning. Expecting to make the team are Fletcher Cox, Bennie Logan, Cedric Thornton, Vinny Curry and Beau Allen. This group will be a huge force in 2015.

Linebackers

The linebackers for the Eagles appear to be solid. The highlights are Kiko Alonso, Connor Barwin, Brandon Graham, Mychal Kendricks and DeMeco Ryans. Some other guys to watch throughout camp are Emmanuel Acho, Najee Goode, Jordan Hicks and Marcus Smith.

Defensive Backs

Capping off what appears to be a solid defense are the defensive backs. The guys who will surely make the team are Brandon Boykin, Malcolm Jenkins, Byron Maxwell, Earl Wolff, Walter Thurmond, Nolan Carroll and Eric Rowe. Some players to look out for are E.J. Biggers, JaCorey Shepherd and Jaylen Watkins. This should be an exciting group to watch.

Special Teams

There is not much controversy for the special teams. The placekicker will be Cody Parkey with Jon Dorenbos as the long snapper. There are currently two punters, Donnie Jones and Kip Smith. Look for Jones to hold on to the spot.

Biggest Battle

The biggest position battle going into camp is between Matt Barkley and Tim Tebow for the third-string quarterback spot. The two quarterbacks battling for the starting position may not finish the season. Sam Bradford has a history of injuries, and if Mark Sanchez performs the way he did in those last four games of 2014, Chip Kelly may bench him. This means at some point in the season he may need to rely on Barkley or Tebow.

When it’s good it’s great, when it’s bad it’s awful. This is a motto that can summarize the Eagles in camp and through the season. Either they will soar or crash. They have all the right pieces to be a stellar team in 2015, but will the stars align? Eagles fans have been here before, and unfortunately it did not work. Hopefully this team will be different, as they have many guys who are hungry for wins and a coach with a chip on his shoulder.
