Saturday night’s preseason game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens was big for a couple of new Eagles players. Not only did DeMarco Murray make his debut with the Eagles, who ran five times for 17 yards and a touchdown, but so did Sam Bradford, Philadelphia’s shiny new starting quarterback.

Bradford finished his night going 3-of-5 for 35 yards while leading the team down the field for a 14-yard touchdown run by Ryan Mathews, who seems to be getting a lot of red-zone snaps (take note, fantasy owners).

All in all, it was a solid outing for Bradford. Considering it’s been over a year since playing football against a team not wearing the same uniform as him, not too shabby. Bradford threw a couple of wild passes that were a little off target, but he made up for it by putting the team into position to put six points on the board.

Bradford also took a couple of big hits, which, believe it or not, was great to see. Terrell Suggs hit Bradford below the waist, which sent just about every Eagles fan in America into cardiac arrest, but Bradford popped right back up. Good to see. He was a little slower getting up after the second hit, which got him up high, but luckily, he didn’t look too banged up here either.

I was hoping Chip Kelly would have given Bradford another drive to shake off the rust, but his night was over after his only drive. Not a bad move. No need to risk anything.

Overall, not a bad outing. Bradford showed toughness and looked pretty calm in the pocket after settling in. He didn’t look like the spectacular second coming of Joe Montana that has dominated in training camp, but he looked good. There are still some improvements to be made, but this was a solid first step.
