The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the market for a backup quarterback after Bruce Gradkowski dislocated a finger on his left hand during their preseason game against the Green Bay Packers last week. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Steelers have made a call to the best remaining quarterback still available. Free agent Michael Vick is currently on his way to Pittsburgh to meet with the Steelers.

Gradkowski is only expected to miss three to four works with the injury, but the Steelers are clearly still a little worried about their depth at the position. Landry Jones, a fourth-round pick out of Oklahoma in 2013, is the only other 53-man roster capable quarterback on the team.
Now 35 years old, Vick played in 10 games, starting three, for the New York Jets last season. He completed 64 of 121 passes (52.9%) for 604 yards, while throwing three touchdowns and two interceptions. Obviously, Vick is no longer the player he was in his prime, but there’s no doubt he’s still good enough to be a backup at this stage of his career.
The contract would be cheap and team friendly, so there’s no reason for the Steelers to not sign Vick right away.
