Tim Tebow Must Play for Montreal Alouettes in CFL to Get Final Shot at NFL

For those who believe Tim Tebow’s playing career in the NFL is over, they could very well be right. It is quite possible Tebow getting cut by the Philadelphia Eagles was the last straw in what has to be one of the most bizarre NFL stories of all time. However, the opportunity to play for the Montreal Alouettes in the Canadian Football League could be exactly what he needs to hone his skills and get a final shot at the NFL.

Tebow being cut by the Eagles was shocking. Not just because head coach Chip Kelly made it clear he truly felt Tebow had a legitimate shot of making the team, but rather, the obvious fact that the former Heisman Trophy winner contains the necessary quarterback and leadership skills to at the very least be a backup signal caller. The truth is he is better than a large group of quarterbacks who do have roster spots, which has to be incredibly frustrating for Tebow and his supporters.

The opportunity to play for the Alouettes, the team that currently owns Tebow’s CFL rights, will allow him to improve upon his throwing motion, accuracy and overall progress that he worked on over the past year. Former CFL quarterback great Anthony Calvillo will coach Tebow on the Alouettes, which gives him an advantage if he enters the league. More importantly, the chance to start is most definitely available.

There is no question ESPN would welcome Tebow back with open arms, whether it was an analyst for the SEC Network or inside a booth to call games. That opportunity will be there for the rest of his life. However, the window to play football professionally is closing, especially when no NFL team is willing to give him a chance right now.

If his dream is still to play in the NFL, going to the CFL is the only way it is going to happen. Once he proves he can play at a high level for the Alouettes, there will be at least one NFL team willing to give him the opportunity to suit up. And, since Tebow has shown he refuses to give up on anything, one can only assume he will make the most of his chance.
