After watching the Houston Texans' debacle in Miami, it is becoming blatantly clear that the Texans need a new direction at quarterback. Brian Hoyer has looked awful against good teams, while Ryan Mallett is likely out of town after missing the team flight to Miami. It might be a little premature, but here are five QB prospects that the Texans should target.

Kevin Hogan hasn''t had to carry the Cardinal like Andrew Luck did, but he keeps getting better and better each year. In addition to improving as a passer, Hogan is an underrated runner who has potential as a late-round pick.

Despite coaching turmoil throughout his career, Kessler has put impressive numbers for the Trojans. The struggles with the program are not his fault, and he has excelled in numerous offenses.

3. Christian Hackenberg, Penn State

No surprises here as Bill O'Brien's college quarterback, Christian Hackenberg, makes this list. Hackenberg has had his struggles post-O'Brien, but not all of those issues are his fault. The Penn State offensive line is absolutely horrendous and has given Hackenberg little to no chance to succeed.

2. Connor Cook, Michigan State

Unlike other former Spartan QBs (Hoyer, Kirk Cousins), Connor Cook can make all the throws and he has performed well in big-time games. Cook keeps progressing week-after-week, and his draft stock will continue to rise.

Jared Goff is unquestionably the top QB prospect in the 2016 class. He is a career 60-percent passer and his numbers have improved year-after-year. Despite getting out-played by UCLA's Josh Rosen last week, Goff still holds the top spot.
