There’s been a lot of clamoring for an NFL team (or two) to make the move to Los Angeles, tapping into America’s second-biggest market and giving the league another immense revenue stream. It appears that move could happen soon — as early as the 2016 season.

According to Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole, it’s a “virtual guarantee” that the NFL will be playing in Los Angeles come 2016. Cole mentions that the league is prepared to put it up to a vote in January or February of this upcoming year, and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is backing the move as NFL owners meet in Dallas this week.

The thought process is that, the sooner a vote happens, the more prepared the relocating team will be for the 2016 campaign.

Three teams are all vying for the opportunity to call LA home — the Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers and St. Louis Rams. All three teams have played in Los Angeles at one point in time, but the Raiders and Chargers would share a stadium in this current situation while the Rams would relocate alone. All three teams are unhappy with their current stadium situations, and haven’t received backing from their respective cities on new stadium plans.

A move has seemed inevitable before and fallen through, so don’t get too excited just yet. However, all of the pieces appear to be falling into place for Los Angeles to have an NFL team in the near future.

Stay tuned.
