Green Bay Packers' 5 Most Important Offseason Priorities

It certainly appears the Green Bay Packers are headed to yet another playoff appearance this season. This upcoming offseason, they have plenty of work to do, but these five things should take priority over everything else if they intend on keeping playoff appearances as an annual occasion.

5. Make Sure Mike McCarthy Knows He's Calling Plays in 2016

In the past, head coach Mike McCarthy had called plays for the Packers and it worked out pretty well. For the first part of this season, he gave up those duties and the results weren't the greatest. Since McCarthy took back over play calling duties, the offense has been a well-oiled machine. To make sure it stays that way into 2016, the team needs to make it clear to McCarthy that he's going to keep calling plays in the future.

4. Keep Jordy Nelson Active in His Rehab

A lot of Green Bay's early-season offensive struggles were a result of having no depth behind Jordy Nelson at wide receiver. They have to have him back in order to be a Super Bowl contender next season and any setbacks put his return in jeopardy. The team needs to stay on him in his rehab so he can come back even better in 2016.

3. Go After a Defensive Playmaker

Clay Matthews is still a pretty good player at linebacker and Julius Peppers has been surprisingly productive into his 30s, but the team really needs a defensive player who can take over a game. Look no further than two of the top names that will be on the market in Von Miller and Josh Norman. They can either grab the top pass rusher available or the top shutdown corner on the market. Either one would solidify a defense that needs someone who exudes confidence to the rest of the team.

2. Find a New Special Teams Coordinator

An Achilles' heel of the Packers in recent years has been their special teams. They need to get one of the top coordinators in the game next season and they should be targeting Dave Toub of the Chiefs. He's a longtime friend and colleague of Andy Reid, so it would be hard to lure him away; however, giving him a chance to coach against the Bears, a team that passed on him in their head coaching search three years ago after he served as their special teams coordinator, might be enough to convince him.

1. Reassure Eddie Lacy of His Role in the Offense

Eddie Lacy has been up and down this season and that could have an effect on next season as well. The coaching staff needs to sit down with him this offseason and let him know he's their guy going forward. If they don't, his confidence could be lost and that's a dangerous thing to happen to a running back. He certainly seems like the bruiser they've always wanted to complement the passing game, so they can't afford to lose his productivity going into next year.
