Can you see why nobody watches the Pro Bowl? They’ve tried everything they can to make it interesting, and it isn’t. This year’s choice to make you wonder what everyone was thinking is Bashaud Breeland from the Washington Redskins. Actually, that would be incorrect. The pick is understandable. We live in an era of fantasy football, so people look at stat lines and watch highlights which becomes everyone’s view of what happened on the field. Unfortunately, that doesn’t tell you everything.

Breeland isn’t even 6-foot and needs heavy clothing to reach 200 pounds. He’s listed at 197. It’s extremely difficult to believe that’s accurate. He’s too small to bump receivers at the line, so more often than not, he plays off in coverage. That wouldn’t be much of an issue if he didn’t always get beat deep. Don’t believe it? Just log into Youtube and watch how he was manhandled by Odell Beckham Jr. when forced to line up across the line from him or look at the fact that the Redskins as a defense gave up over 3,400 yards through the first 13 games.

Overall, the defense ranks 25th. Teams are completing, to this point, 62 percent of their passes against the Redskins and have put up 26 touchdowns. You could argue no one from this secondary should go to the Pro Bowl. But Breeland has two interceptions, and ultimately, this is typically how cornerbacks are judged in this league.

Breeland isn’t one of the best cornerbacks in this league. He may not even be the best on his team. The Redskins just don’t have many options at this point.
