Every NFL Playoff Contender's Most Overrated Player

NFL contenders, both ones that have clinched playoff berths and that are on the outside looking in, need their best players to step up in the last couple weeks of the season. These players may seem like some of the best players on the league’s contending teams, but they are each the most overrated player on their team.

15. New England Patriots - WR Danny Amendola

2015 Stats: 63 catches, 631 yards and 3 TDs. Amendola is a solid possession receiver for the Patriots and one of the best Tom Brady has available with all the injuries on the offensive side of the ball, but he can't stay healthy himself. When he's playing, he's prone to the occasional fumble as well. As long as he's staying in games, he's contributing, but he just can't be depended upon long term.

14. New York Jets - DE Leonard Williams

2015 Stats: 51 tackles and 3 sacks. It's hard to expect a ton from a rookie, but Williams came in with huge expectations that he hasn't quite lived up to yet. His stats aren't all that bad, but he just hasn't been as disruptive in the passing game as he should be at this point. With plenty of other solid players on his defensive side of the ball, he doesn't have to be as dominant, but the Jets have to hope he takes another step in his pass rushing progression in year No. 2.

13. Cincinnati Bengals - RB Jeremy Hill

2015 Stats: 188 attempts, 635 yards and 10 TDs. It's really hard to call a running back with double-digit touchdowns overrated, but Hill does get a little more credit than he deserves. He gets an inordinate amount of goal line carries, so he gets more opportunities to get into the end zone. Meanwhile, he averages less than four yards per carry, which just doesn't cut it for someone trying to prove he can be an every-down back.

12. Pittsburgh Steelers - DE James Harrison

2015 Stats: 33 tackles, 5 sacks. Harrison didn't even plan on playing this late into his life, but he continues to suit up on Sundays for the Steelers and produce. However, he's not producing at the rate that most people who remember him as a great pass rusher think he does. His sack total looks alright, but he's just not blowing up plays like he used to. After all, his playing career has taken its toll on him, and he can't bring it the way he used to every single down.

11. Houston Texans - DT Vince Wilfork

2015 Stats: 20 tackles, 0 sacks. Wilfork is probably hanging up the cleats after this season, but this hasn't been his finest years. It's not like he's playing every down anymore, but he still hasn't been a disruptive force in the middle of the field. He still takes up space, but his athleticism isn't where it used to be, so he isn't as good this season as most probably assume he's been.

10. Indianapolis Colts - RB Frank Gore

2015 Stats: 226 attempts, 806 yards and 4 TDs. Frank Gore is very impressive for his age, but he hasn't been the same in Indianapolis this season. Sure, he has carried a heavy workload, but he isn't even rushing for four yards a carry. His inability to hit the big play every now and then is a big reason the Colts are on the outside of the playoff picture looking in.

9. Denver Broncos - QB Brock Osweiler

2015 Stats: 60.3 completion percentage, 1,436 yards, 8 TDs, 4 INTs. Osweiler is still a better option compared to Peyton Manning, but he's been questionable in his last couple games. He needs to learn to either get rid of the ball sooner or throw it away without taking a sack. His inexperience is starting to show and if he doesn't figure it out in the last couple weeks of the year, the Broncos could have an early exit from the playoffs.

8. Kansas City Chiefs - TE Travis Kelce

2015 Stats: 65 catches, 822 yards and 4 TDs. Kelce is still one of the better tight ends in the game, but he hasn't been as dependable of an option in the red zone this year as in years past. As the Chiefs continue their hot streak, he needs to become a bigger threat for quarterback Alex Smith to be able to go to in a pinch.

7. Washington Redskins - RB Alfred Morris

2015 Stats: 166 attempts, 602 yards and 1 TD. Alfred Morris is still riding off the name he made for himself his rookie year. This season, he hasn't quite cut it for the Redskins, even as they're headed for the playoffs. He's going to have to be a much bigger complement to Kirk Cousins and Co. in the playoffs if Washington hopes to have any chance of making noise.

6. Green Bay Packers - WR James Jones

2015 Stats: 41 catches, 742 yards and 8 TDs. James Jones is one of Aaron Rodgers' favorite red-zone targets, but he seems to drop the ball everywhere besides the end zone. When the Packers need a big catch, he generally doesn't make it. This is more of an eye test thing, but Green Bay can't rely on him in big spots. At some point, that has to get into Rodgers' head.

5. Minnesota Vikings - WR Stefon Diggs

2015 Stats: 47 catches, 693 yards and 4 TDs. Diggs got off to a great start in his rookie season, but he has fallen off considerably since the first part of the year. He still could develop into a top target for the Vikings, but it doesn't seem like that's going to be this season. Since he had such a great start, though, people look at him as a playmaker that he's not.

4. Carolina Panthers - DE Jared Allen

2015 Stats: 21 tackles, 2 sacks. Allen hasn't been on the Panthers all season long, but he hasn't been good at all in 2015. He clearly isn't what he once was and has been used more sparingly, but that's disappointing for Carolina. He needs to be much more disruptive down the stretch in order for the Panthers to be the definitive Super Bowl favorites this season.

3. Atlanta Falcons - QB Matt Ryan

2015 Stats: 61.7 completion percentage, 3,951 yards, 18 TDs and 15 INTs. Matty Ice doesn't quite have the ice in his veins that he once had. His completion percentage and yardage don't look all that bad, but his nearly 1:1 TD:INT ratio is unacceptable. He has folded under the pressure down the stretch this season and that's a huge reason the Falcons are unlikely to make the playoffs after getting off to one of the hottest starts in football.

2. Arizona Cardinals - DE Frostee Rucker

2015 Stats: 25 tackles, 2 sacks. Rucker has made a name for himself in the NFL, but he hasn't been all that great for the Cardinals this season. The Arizona defense has been excellent as a whole, but Rucker has been less than impressive. It seems like he's lost a bit of a burst, which has resulted in less pressures and sacks. He could be an x-factor for the Cardinals if he can get it going heading into the playoffs.

1. Seattle Seahawks - CB Richard Sherman

2015 Stats: 44 tackles, 2 INTs. Sherman is still a very good cornerback, but he isn't the superstar he's been in years past. Opposing quarterbacks aren't quite as scared to throw to his side this season, and that's because he hasn't been stepping in front of as many passes as he used to. The Seahawks better hope he has a little playoff magic left in the tank as they try to win their third straight NFC title.
