5 Players the Oakland Raiders Should Cut During 2016 Offseason

The Oakland Raiders are headed in the right direction. They have a coach that knows what he’s doing, a nice core of young players and they’ll always have one of the greatest fan bases in sports. As rumors of a move to Los Angeles grow daily, they can still use a bit of a facelift before planting the mailbox in another city. Here are five names they can start with.

5. Marcel Reece, Fullback

There are actually conversations as to whether or not both Marcel Reece and Jamize Olawale are fullbacks and running backs. There really isn't a need for both seeing as how they're both 6-foot-1 and about 245 pounds. That being said, the advantage goes to Olawale.

4. Rod Streater, Wide Receiver

The Raiders have a lot of money invested in Michael Crabtree and Amari Cooper. That happens a lot at the wide receiver position in Oakland. The eyeball test says Streater's probably third on the depth chart, but if that's true, a season with one catch and zero touchdowns couldn't have figured into the game plan. A good slot receiver will make Oakland forget Streater rather quickly.

3. Tony Bergstrom, Center

The Raiders were pretty high on Tony Bergstrom. He's now their second-string center and probably is better suited to play guard. Any offensive line issues can probably be addressed in the coming draft or free agency at the least.

2. Aldon Smith, Linebacker

Aldon Smith is one of those names that jumps off of any roster. The Raiders are one of those teams that still run a 4-3 defensive scheme. Depending on what sports website you're looking at, Smith can be listed as an outside linebacker or be shown as one of the top two defensive end on the depth chart. What's certain is the Raiders aren't throwing the money at Smith so he can finish 13th on the team in tackles.

1. Justin Tuck, Defensive End

Justin Tuck is getting old. He's a legend, a longtime force in the league, and was one of the cornerstones of the New York Giants for years. Now he's on the wrong side of 30, has some injury issues and just completed a very expensive season for the Raiders where he rewarded their investment with 14 tackles and one sack. The Raiders simply cannot give him more money. With the emergence of Khalil Mack, they'll be fine without him.
