5 Reasons Why The Kansas City Chiefs Won’t Win Super Bowl 50

The Kansas City Chiefs are in the midst of a 10-game winning streak entering the playoffs. Normally, that would be a great sign for any team as they are playing their best football when it counts the most. Unfortunately, the Chiefs’ great play won’t end with a Super Bowl ring, and here are five reasons why.

5. Not Enough Balance On Offense

The Chiefs have done a tremendous job of running the ball this season despite the loss of Jamaal Charles. Andy Reid's team finished sixth in the NFL in rushing yards per game, but only ranked 27th in the league in total offense thanks to their 30th ranked passing game. The key to winning in the playoffs is balance, and the Chiefs are lacking in that department.

4. Pass Protection

The Chiefs possess a brilliant run-blocking offensive line, but the unit leaves a lot to be desired in pass protection. Quarterback Alex Smith has been sacked 46 times this season which is the sixth-most in the NFL. With a date against J.J. Watt and the Texans on Saturday, it could be a long day for the Chiefs' signal-caller.

3. Lack Of Explosive Weapons

Without Jamaal Charles, the Chiefs' best offensive players are Jeremy Maclin and Travis Kelce. While Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware have done an admirable job running the ball, things will get more difficult in the playoffs as opposing defenses stack the box to stop the run and force the Chiefs to beat them through the air.

2. No. 5 Seed

While making the playoffs is certainly an accomplishment, it's extremely difficult to go the distance as a Wild Card (unless you're the New York Giants) because you're essentially guaranteed to play every game away from home in a hostile environment. The Chiefs would likely have to defeat the Texans, Patriots and Broncos if they are going to make a Super Bowl run, and that's a daunting task.

1. Downfield Passing Game

Smith is a solid game manager, and this has helped him to have a successful career with the Chiefs. Unfortunately, he's also the king of the short-passing game, as he refuses to take chances down the field because of his fear of turning the ball over. During the playoffs, teams must take deep shots in order to keep the defense honest, and Smith isn't the type of quarterback to do that.

Texans Actually Tried J.J. Watt At QB

There's something to be said for pulling out all the stops and using every trick play in the book to win a playoff game, but bringing in J.J. Watt to play quarterback in the wildcat formation was probably a giveaway that he would be running the ball.
