Mark Davis Eyes Move To San Antonio If Los Angeles Bid Fails

By Brad Berreman

As the NFL nears a solution in Los Angeles, the San Diego Chargers and St. Louis Rams look like the front-runners to relocate. That leaves the Oakland Raiders without a clear option to move back to Southern California, so owner Mark Davis is starting to look at other options.

Jason Cole of Bleacher Report, in his latest “Insider Buzz” video, reports that Davis is now looking to San Antonio as a relocation option. Cole goes a bit further, with Davis having a land agreement in Texas to perhaps leverage against Oakland in an effort to get a new stadium there. San Antonio has been mentioned as a spot Davis would like to move the Raiders, but it may have a bit more teeth now.

Another tentacle of the Raiders’ situation involves Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Jones has been a lead advocate of the Chargers and Rams moving to Los Angeles, and Cole opines it would be hard for him to come back and try to block a move to Texas by the Raiders.

The Raiders play in the only remaining full-fledged dual-purpose stadium in sports, O.co Coliseum, which they share with the Oakland Athletics. To say it’s a dilapidated facility is an understatement, so I don’t blame Davis for considering a move to San Antonio and a proposal to relocate could eventually come if a stadium solution can’t be worked out in the East Bay Area.
