Justin Houston And The Most Disappointing Kansas City Chiefs Of 2015

By Jason Fletcher

After winning 11 straight games, the Kansas City Chiefs were eliminated from the 2016 NFL Playoffs following a 27-20 defeat at the hands of the New England Patriots on Saturday. Andy Reid did a tremendous job of turning around a 1-5 team and taking it to the second round of the playoffs, but the Chiefs were held back by the disappointing play of these five players.

5. WR De'Anthony Thomas

The Chiefs desperately want Thomas to take on a role similar to what Reggie Bush did early in his career with the New Orleans Saints. They want to get him the ball in space and let him use his ability after the catch to gain chunks of yardage. Instead, he recorded 17 catches for 240 yards and a touchdown in 2015.

4. RB Knile Davis

With Jamaal Charles going down early in the season, Davis had an opportunity to take over the reins as the starting running back. Instead, he allowed Charcandrick West to pass him on the depth chart and finished the season averaging 2.6 YPC on 28 carries.

3. OLB Dee Ford

Ford was a first-round pick in the 2014 draft as the Chiefs were protecting themselves against the possibility of either Tamba Hali or Justin Houston leaving via free agency. Instead, Ford has only recorded 30 total tackles and 5.5 sacks in two seasons.

2015 was a contract year for the 32-year-old Hali, but he didn't have his typical kind of season. He only recorded 6.5 sacks and largely disappointed. Although he wasn't likely to get a large contract offer anyways, he may have to play on a one-year deal in 2016 to prove his worth.

1. OLB Justin Houston

Following a 2014 season that featured 22 sacks, the Chiefs signed Houston to a six-year deal worth $101 million with $52.5 guaranteed. Instead of proving his worth, Houston only recorded 7.5 sacks and 3 TFLs in 11 games. Had he been more disruptive, the Chiefs could've beaten the Patriots on Saturday.
