Buffalo Bills 7-Round 2016 NFL Mock Draft Before The Senior Bowl

The Buffalo Bills are not far from playoff contention, but they could stand to add a few upgrades in the draft to help their cause. With that in mind, here’s a look at an early mock for who they may be targeting.

Round 1: DL Robert Nkemdiche - Ole Miss

If the Bills are fortunate enough to have Robert Nkemdiche fall to them with their first-round pick, then they should waste little time getting their card in. Nkemdiche has some character and effort issues, but that has not scared Rex Ryan in the past. Nkemdiche could lock down a starting position right away on the Buffalo front, and he could turn into a steal for the team.

Round 2: WR Tyler Boyd - Pittsburgh

Another player with some character issues, Tyler Boyd would be an excellent option for the Bills in the second round. Boyd was a very solid receiver at Pittsburgh, and he will have the ability to be at least a solid No. 2 receiver in the NFL. Boyd would benefit from playing across from Sammy Watkins and he would give the Bills more speed and better size than they had on the outside last season.

Round 3: OL Le’Raven Clark - Texas Tech

The biggest weakness on the Bills’ offense this season was the play of the right side of their offensive line. Seantrel Henderson was only mediocre as the starting right tackle, and John Miller was not very good as a rookie. The team should invest in a versatile lineman who could step in for one of them, and Clark fits the bill in the third round. Clark would at the very least be an upgrade over backup tackle Cyrus Kouandjio.

Round 4: LB Tyler Matakevich - Temple

The Bills might lose Nigel Bradham in free agency and if they do, then the team will have to find a proper replacement for him. At Temple, Tyler Matakevich was a steady producer, logging over 100 tackles in each of his four seasons. He seems to have strong instincts and that will help to make up for his lack of speed. Rex will figure out a way to use him effectively.

Round 5: S Deon Bush - Miami (FL)

It seems like the Bills have had a keen eye for safety talent over the past couple of seasons, and they may have to draft another. With Bacarri Rambo heading to restricted free agency and Aaron Williams contemplating retirement, the team will have to add safety depth. Bush has some upside in the fifth round and he could assume a backup role for the team in his rookie season.

Round 6: QB Trevone Boykin - TCU

The Bills need a developmental quarterback to work behind Tyrod Taylor. I know Trevone Boykin has had some off-the-field concerns, but he makes too much sense for the Bills to pass on him. The team could develop him like Taylor and give him a few years to get used to the NFL. If that pays off, then the team would have a very solid backup on their hands in a couple of years.
