Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch Seemingly Retired During Super Bowl 50 On Twitter

By Jason Fletcher

While all of America was focused on the Carolina Panthers squaring off against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50, Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch thought that would be the perfect time to announce his retirement from the NFL. Not one to be the center of attention, this was the perfect way for Lynch to go out.

Earlier on Sunday, there were reports saying Lynch had told some of his closest friends that he would be retiring, but there had been nothing official released. If for some reason you don’t think this tweet indicates he’s retiring, here are some successive tweets from his teammates to confirm.

As for the Seahawks, they already have Lynch’s replacement in rookie Thomas Rawls, but it will be an adjustment as there’s no one in the world who runs the ball like Lynch, especially around the goal-line. It will, however, allow Russell Wilson to take complete control of the offense which could mean the Seahawks will play more in the spread.

Lynch will finish his 10-year career with 2,144 carries for 9,112 yards and 74 touchdowns while also adding 252 receptions for 1,979 yards and nine touchdowns. At 29 years old, he will be able to move on to the next part of his life at a young age and not wait until his body breaks down on him. Walking out on your own terms is a big plus in the NFL.

Congratulations to Lynch on a brilliant career and best wishes in the next stage of his life.
