Miami Dolphins' 5 Biggest Draft Needs Heading Into 2016 Combine

By Geoffrey Knox

It’s easy to look at the Miami Dolphins and wonder why this team can’t win. They’ve got excellent talent in key positions and draft well but just can’t seem to take that next step. Depending on what vantage point you are using, you could even argue that they’re probably stuck as the fourth best team in their division. As another offseason looms, here are five areas of concern for a once proud franchise.

5. Running Back

It was difficult deciding whether or not to put the wide receiver or running back position at No. 5. They need help at the skill positions to take pressure off of Ryan Tannehill. Their leading rusher, Lamar Miller, maxed out at 872 yards.

4. Offensive Tackle

Offensive line play needs to be better in both the running and passing game. That would allow this team to sustain drives instead of wearing their defense out in an attempt to keep them in games. The tackle position is okay but depth would be nice.

3. Offensive Guard

Even without hitting the 1000 yard mark, Miller was able to put up over four yards a carry. That's probably due more to talent than push from the line he was running behind. Honestly, they just need more talent at guard.

2. Inside Linebacker

There's some talent here, but as a whole there just isn't enough talent to scare anybody or make enough plays on the defensive side. The Dolphins have to get better at the second level and a nice addition at the Mike linebacker position could help.

1. Cornerback

On one side they've got Brent Grimes, but he's getting older. Now they've got to figure out the other. There's some youth here as they had two rookies on the roster last year, but there's no telling if they're a real long-term answer.
