New York Jets' 5 Biggest Draft Needs Heading Into 2016 NFL Combine

The New York Jets missed the playoffs last season by way of a Week 17 defeat at the hands of Rex Ryan‘s Buffalo Bills. As a result, general manager Mike Maccagnan and head coach Todd Bowles will be looking towards the 2016 NFL Combine and 2016 NFL Draft to improve their team so that doesn’t happen again in 2016.

5. Offensive Tackle

The Jets' offensive line did a brilliant job protecting Ryan Fitzpatrick in 2015, as they only allowed 22 sacks the entire season. That being said, D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Breno Giacomini are both north of 30, so drafting a tackle would make sense.

4. Running Back

Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell and Stevan Ridley are all free agents this offseason, and although one of Ivory or Powell could very well be back with the team, it may make sense for the Jets to add a running back in the draft.

3. Inside Linebacker

David Harris and Demario Davis were the Jets' two leading tacklers last season, but Harris is 32 years old and Davis is a free agent. It would behoove Maccagnan to add another middle linebacker to help patrol the defense.

2. Tight End

Jeff Cumberland was the Jets' leading receiver at tight end, as he hauled in five catches for 77 yards. Those would be solid stats for one game, but that was for the entire season. The Jets need a tight end who can dominate the middle of the field.

The Jets cut former first-round pick Quinton Coples and Calvin Pace is 35 years old. Although the team likes Lorenzo Mauldin, he's not ready to take over the starting job right now.
