The New Orleans Saints were one of the NFL‘s elite teams just a few years ago, but with the league’s 31st-ranked defense and an aging star at quarterback, every draft pick is crucial if they want to rise quickly back to the top.
1. A'Shawn Robinson, DT, Alabama

The Saints' defense has a lot of holes to fill and it all starts up front. Defensive tackle Kevin Williams is 35 years old and an upcoming free agent, so they'll likely be looking for an interior lineman early in the draft.
2. Carl Nassib, DE, Penn State

An improved pass rush should help the Saints' embarrassing secondary look a little better, and the nation's sack leader should still be on the board. Nassib is projected to go in the second or third round and may be the top-ranked end at this point.

Drew Brees is still one of the most productive passers in the league, though the team has been trying to run the ball more. Sean Payton may be looking to add an interior lineman to help the cause.
4. Maurice Canady, CB, Virginia

There's no question the team will add to the secondary at some point in the draft. Canady has the size and athleticism of an NFL corner. He just needs to work on erratic footwork and improve on his below-average strength.
5. Jatavis Brown, OLB, Akron

New Orleans will likely be adding at each level on the defense, and Jatavis Brown has great explosion and is a hard-hitter. He's undersized, but the Saints have found past success with similar players.
6. Brandon Doughty, QB, Western Kentucky

Drew Brees probably isn't going anywhere so there's no need for an early-round quarterback, though backups Matt Flynn and Luke McCown are free agents. The front office may opt to take a flyer on a guy in the draft, possibly finding their future.
7. Geronimo Allison, WR, Illinois

The Saints still have offensive talent but they'll want to add a little depth. Geronimo Allison was a JUCO transfer that had a breakout senior season at Illinois. He may be worth taking a chance on in the late rounds.
